Last year we moved our ink and paper fingerprinting system to a digital, web based solution from Cogent and Webcheck. We fingerprint and background-check all the volunteers at CLC who work with children.
The system’s really slick – a laptop is configured with a digital certificate and is connected to a USB card swiper and a USB fingerprint scanner. From the laptop you log on to the secure webcheck website. Swipe your driver’s license and it prefills all the demographic information in the web form, or you can enter it manually.
Then you scan 4 fingers, and the system
analyzes each scan to make sure it’s acceptable quality.Once you have 4 high quality prints, you submit the info and wait for a reply – if you’re clean you get a gold star by your name, and if not we get a letter in the mail.
The last couple of months we’ve been having some real problems with the system. We’re still covered by maintenance, so I eventually called them up.
Within 10 minutes I had an RMA – I shipped the defective scanner to California and 5 days later got an email from support saying the scanner was confirmed defective and I will be receiving a replacement. The next day the replacement showed up and we’re back in business.
That’s all. I’m easy to please. You don’t usually hear when things go right, so I thought I’d give credit where it’s due.
I am very interested in this system.
How much does it cost (start-up and per look-up).
How thorough is the check?
You have my email.
