I recently noticed that everytime I attempt to offer Remote Assistance, I get the following error: “Remote assistance failed. Please try again.”
I finally did some digging and found that Internet Explorer 7, which I recently upgraded to, breaks the ability to offer remote assistance using the method I talked about in this previous post. It appears that Microsoft knows about this and had vowed to fix it in the final release of IE7, but it appears this hasn’t happened yet.
The workaround is to remove IE from the shortcut.
Create a new shortcut (on the desktop) from scratch and copy the following path into the location field – hcp://CN=Microsoft%20Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US/Remote%20Assistance/Escalation/Unsolicited/UnSolicitedRCUI.htm
Life is good again!
