If you’re thinking about buying a PC in the near future, you might want to wait a couple weeks for Intel’s new Core 2 Duo processor. The lower end Core 2 will be cheaper and outperform the Pentium D that you’d get if you buy a PC today. From ars technica:
“. . .these benchmark results put to rest any doubts as to the reason behind the Pentium D fire sale. There’s just no point in buying a Pentium D when you can pick up a low-end Core 2 Duo that outperforms it for less money.
In all, Core 2 is a strong, well-balanced processor that has everything going for it. This is Intel’s first unqualified home-run in a while, and I think computing enthusiasts everywhere should thank their lucky stars that the Intel-AMD race is now back on.”
